Canon today announced the second generation version of its posh compact digital camera, the GX9 X Mark II, a package of interest for videographers for its GX7 Mark II compact digital cameras, plus three new Vixia camcorders, the Canon Vixia HF R80, R82, and R800.
Canon PowerShot GX9 X Mark II
The second-generation Canon PowerShot GX9 X Mark II adds wireless capabilities, an updated Digic 7 image processor and faster burst rate to the GX9’s feature set. The original includes a big 1-inch 20MP CMOS sensor, fast 3x zoom lens with an f/2.8 max aperture, a 3-inch touch panel LCD monitor, shutter speeds up to 1/2000 sec and a top ISO of 12,800.
The new model includes built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth, captures full HD video along with time-lapse and dynamic image stabilization, has in-camera RAW conversion, and continuous shooting speeds up to 8.2fps, which is faster than the original model’s 6fps burst rate.
Canon PowerShot GX 7 X Mark II Video Creator Kit
The Canon PowerShot GX7 X Mark II is based on a similar sensor to the GX9, and shares most of its features, including its time-lapse and full HD 1080p video capabilities, but it offers a longer-range 4.2x faster lens that has a maximum aperture of f/1.8. Now Canon is making the same camera available in a kit designed to attract videographers.
The GX 7 X Mark II has a 20MP 1-inch sensor and DIGIC-7 image processor, a 24-100mm (35mm equivalent) f/1.8-2.8 lens, the ability to shoot RAW and JPEG images, a flip-out 3-inch camera, built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, in-camera RAW conversion, and a number of video-friendly features including panning, time-lapse, and control rings around the lens.
The video package includes the camera, two Battery Pack NB-13Ls and charger, a Manfrotto PIXI MINI tripod, and a 32GB SD card.
Three New Camcorders
Canon also announced three new camcorders for the consumer market.
The Canon Vixia HF R82 features a 57x (35-1853mm 35mm equivalent) built-in zoom lens and can record MP4 video files at up to 1080/60p resolution. It features a 3.28MP full HD CMOS sensor, Digic DV4 Image Processor, and a 3-inch touchscreen LCD monitor. It offers slow and fast motion recording and a highlight priority mode that corrects for backlighting.
The R82 has live streaming capabilities via built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity and Canon’s Camera Connect App, making it a great choice for sharing videos on Facebook and other social media. The camera has 32GB of internal memory, which can hold up to 12 hours of video. It is compatible with Canon Connect Station CS100 and the optional Camaera Pan Table CT-V1.
The Canon Vixia HF R80 offers essentially the same set of features, but with half the internal memory (16MB), and capacity for 6 hours of video.
The Canon Vixia HF R800 offers the same basic features as the R80 but has no internal storage—it records directly to a removable SD memory card—and does not have any wireless capabilities.
