Nine out of every 10 people coming online in India need a browser that’s not in English

Indian language speakers are getting online faster than English language speakers in India, and are expected to go from 42 million in 2011 to 536 million in 2021.

  • App developers, online stores, and device makers are having to ask for help to navigate India’s linguistic diversity.
  • Indian startup Reverie offers fonts, translation services, and technical support for companies that want to include Indian languages in their products.

  • India has more than 140 major languages and more than 700 local dialects. And tech companies that respond to that linguistic diversity are getting ahead.

  • Alibaba’s UC browser works in more than 10 Indian languages. It controls half of the market share in mobile browsing, beating Chrome.
