After releasing an emergency Windows 10 patch to address the recently discovered Intel CPU vulnerabilities, Microsoft has just started to roll out new Surface firmware updates for additional hardware protection (via The Verge). In a support article, the company explains that the updates will be available for the following devices running the running Windows 10 Creators Update and Windows 10 Fall Creators Update:
- Surface Pro 3
- Surface Pro 4
- Surface Book
- Surface Studio
- Surface Pro Model 1796
- Surface Laptop
- Surface Pro with LTE Advanced
- Surface Book 2
You’ll notice that older devices such as the Surface 3 and the Surface Pro 1 and 2 are missing from the list. There is also no firmware update for Microsoft’s Surface Hub digital whiteboard, which runs a modified version of the more secure Windows 10 Enterprise. “We will continue to monitor and update Surface Hub as needed to address this vulnerability,” Microsoft explained.
Be aware that these new firmware updates will roll out gradually and you may not see them immediately in Windows Update. If you want to install them as soon as possible, you can download them right now from the Microsoft Download Center. “The Surface team is focused on ensuring our users have a secure and reliable experience and will continue to monitor and update devices as needed to address this vulnerability,” Microsoft added.
