SOUNDCAM is the first camera that images sound and is affordable for everyone. The system is intuitive and as easy to use as a smartphone. SOUNDCAM locates sound sources in real time and immediately displays the results on the screen.

In order to change a problem, e.g. unwanted noise emitted by an item in your surroundings, you first have to understand it. SOUNDCAM will localize the problem by imaging the analyzed sound source on the touchscreen. That way, you’ll know immediately which issues to fine-tune.

Existing acoustic cameras are only affordable for major companies. These systems are very complex and an acoustical engineer is necessary for operation. Yet there are so many applications in our daily life. That’s why we’ve decided to integrate that same technology in an intuitive, handheld, low-cost device, making it available for a broader market.


SOUNDCAM consists of 64 microphones, an optical camera, an integrated data acquisition and analysis system, as well as a display and control unit with touchscreen and hardware buttons. The system displays high-resolution results in real time on the screen. What makes it so special is its high speed and accuracy.

How it works

Sound propagates as a wave at a certain speed, which means that sound needs a certain amount of time to propagate from a noise source to each microphone of the array. Depending on each microphone’s position, the sound wave will need varying travel times. The algorithm running on SOUNDCAM analyzes these time delays and calculates accurate acoustic pictures and videos in real time.

At the same time, an optical camera is used to generate the needed optical information, and optical and acoustic pictures are overlayed. These overlayed results are displayed on the screen: the so-called acoustic pictures or videos.
