After Gazillion Entertainment lost the Marvel license, they basically closed up shop
Within days, Gazillion Entertainment had crumbled due to issues with Marvel Heroes and their revoked Marvel license last October. After some attempt at renegotiating a deal wasn’t struck, and following a meeting in November 2017, employees were placed on unpaid furlough barring a few scant staff members. Marvel Heroes had its plug pulled a full month in advance.
Now, MMO giant and Rift publisher Trion Worlds is picking up the pieces. Speaking to VentureBeat, Trion Worlds has confirmed that it’s acquired the assets of Gazillion Entertainment. The deal includes “Gazillion licenses, trademarks, patents and domains, in addition to its library of games.”
Trion CEO Scott Hartsman explains that “Crunch and burn and lay off is unhealthy. We have tried to do things about it and we want to be a good member of the gaming ecology. We keep trying to do things to help other developers.” The deal will help Trion to continue to support their ecosystem and expand their publishing efforts.
